Romance / Drama / Comedy Serendipity This was one of the best romance/comedies I've seen so far. And it was damn funny too.
Wedding Crashers I have been waiting to see this film since exactly July 1st, 2003 after stumbling across its on-location filming at Greenwich Park in England. It was exciting seeing The Scene, but otherwise, that wait has been in vain. Now, that's not to say this isn't a decent film, but the main problem is that Layer Cake is edited in a way that makes it needlessly hard-to-follow. The film feels longer than it is, but still provides a rather rousing story with some interesting, whimsical imagery (the drugs for sale at the beginning, in particular). The protagonist, sharply played by Daniel Craig, is an unusual drug dealer, but a far more interesting one than is normally portrayed in such a hard-edged gangster-type film. His struggle with committing murder was fascinating and a successful attempt at true depth. Today's movie climate has apparently necessitated the need for endless twists and turns to keep the audience interested; too bad, as nearly every character is lost in the film's jungle of a plot that floods the final third of the movie. Still, Layer Cake is happily flashy and ambitious enough to warrant a viewing.
Hilarious! A definate must see!
Alright, so I went to an advanced screening of Wedding Crashers and I laughed my ass off. It was great. Being in so many weddings, it is good to see a movie like this that is about weddings, but not really. Vince Vaughn, who until recently (Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Dodgeball) had really not impressed me--was at his manic, crazy, cake-eating, extremely tall best in this film. I have never laughed so hard in my life. You gotta love the R-rated comedy. So it goes like this. Jeremy (Vince Vaughn) and John (Owen Wilson) are wedding crashers. They look forward to the wedding season so they can bed the single ladies. They go to the "Kentucky Derby" of weddings as one of the Secretary of Treasury's (wild man Christopher Walken) three daughters gets married. Owen Wilson's character falls in love with Claire (Rachel McAdams) and pushes his buddy into going on a holiday with the Cleary family. Vaughn on the other hand, has an extremely rough time thanks to Claire's little sister Gloria (isla Fisher--who is insane in this film) and little arty brother Todd. Throw in a cameo by Will Farrell and you have some quality comedy We rented Hostage on wednesday night and it was a really fast-paced movie. A little more gorey than I thought it would be, but a good old-fashioned Bruce Willis action flick is always a good thing. Oh, and Ben Foster (The Punisher, Six Feet Under and as I like to remember him as Tucker on the Disney show Flash Forward) creeped the hell out of me! What a freak! Last night, I watched The Girl Next Door on cable. In which Matt, the honor student JFK-wannabe played by the ever adorable and much too young Emile Hirsch, gets the thrill of his life when Danielle, a former porn-star played by Elisha Cuthbert, moves in next door. It is basically a revisionist take on Risky Business except there is no glass egg (but there is money to bring over an exchange student) and no Guido the Killer Pimp (but there is the insane Timothy Olyphant as a pornographer that hounds Matt). All in all, a very entertaining and cute flick. Anyway, I am tired and I have to go.Court
An awesome movie! The trailer doesn't give this movie the credit it deserves. The lines are great, and the two leads really carry the show home. The supporting cast (particularly the grandmother and the psycho boyfriend) are great. Jane Seymour has a great role too haha!Don't be put off by the really is a funny movie. You will laugh for almost the entire movie. Keith
Very funny! however, it was predictable and the plot line has been done too many times.
So I saw an advanced screening of this and...oh, god. Hands down the funniest movie of the year. And one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I haven't laughed that hard in a LONG LONG time. I was dying. I mean, when you are slapping your leg, you know it's funny. I was DYING. Let me say though, this isn't a great movie by any means. I mean, it's complete and utter trash at its best. BUT, that was SO FUNNY. Vince Vaughn was HYSTERICAL. I mean, this is Vaughn at his best. We're talking Swingers caliber funny. And almost NOTHING compares to loud-mouthed, egotistical, womanizing Trent (god, I love that character). I mean, Vince has been funny in other movies I've seen. He's always funny. But this? Rolling on the ground hilarious. As for my boy Owen, as much as I have to admit it...he takes the number two slot behind Vince. Owen did a great job in this movie (seriously, how adorable was he? He really liked that girl...what a turn from his former self) and was laugh out loud funny as well. And this is probably one of his better roles...but if you compare him to's all about the double V, hands down. I will say this was one of the raunchiest films I've ever seen. Yeah it's rated R, I know. I guess I should have been a bit more prepared. But it's all good. So this movie gets 10/10 from me on laughs. I haven't laughed so hard in the theatre ever. (Unless maybe at how effing bad 8 Crazy Nights was. Seriously. Adam Sandler needs to get his ish together. Again, I'm on a tangent...) But when it comes to the plot? Ehh....over done. Way Hollywood and way cliched. It just...I mean, you'd think that writers could come up with more original scripts, but I guess not. They were too busy writing the jokes, I guess! However...the shoddy plotline is pretty much overlooked based on how hilariously funny the movie itself is. So...I subtracted a point for bad plot...but it still ranks 9/10 in my book...which, holy an A-. So yeah...see it. Because you'll die laughing.
Wedding Crashers feeds off the energy of both of its stars Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn. When they're together in the same room, fireworks explode and the moviegoers are rewarded with a great experience, especially with the energetic montage in the first 15 minutes. However, when they're apart, as they are in most of the third act, the laughs trail off and the movie suffers for it. Even the introduction of Chaz, played by a famous comedian and usually very funny, seems out-of-place with the way the movie was going in the first 90 minutes. Rachel McAdams certainly looks the part and does her best with what she has, but isn't given anything memorable to say. But hey, what can you say about Christopher Walken? One look at his trademark stare looks very creepy (and the director gives you ample opportunities to look at it) and aside from Claire, he's the most normal of the family, which is pretty tough to accomplish in any movie.
-boy lies about who he is,boy falls in love with girl, boy is about to tell the truth, girl finds out a different way, relationship ends, boy redeems self countless movies have used this plot over and over, but the wedding crashers have secret weapons: -R rating-boobs-rachel mcqdams and isla fisher(so hot)-owen wilson-vince vaughn unleashed shit comes out of vaughn's mouth that is so damn funny its unbelievable-go see it
Comedy of the year; of the last few years in fact and the best Frat Pack movie so far. Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn's chemistry is brill becuase they are so different. Vaughn talks with machine gun pace while Wilson has a slower Texan drawl. Their best scenes are when they're disputing and trying to get the last word in on each other. Rachel McAdams really groudns the roll of Claire and fits into it perfectly. Isla Fisher is the scene stealer as Gloria, the nutty sister. All her scenes are laugh out loud. I don't remember laughing this much at film for a while now and even went back again earlier today for my second viewing because I lved it so much. A third one is certainly on the cards and maybe more than that. it weel deserves rewatches especially as there's a chance you'll miss something from laughing so much. I love it!
It ain't Shakespear, but it works very well at what it tries to be. All in all, I'd put it one step above Dodgeball and Old School. I could give all the pros and cons to this movie, but if you over think it, you'll not enjoy it.
hilarious R rated fun.
Theater First Viewing, 3 Dobkin films seen I was going to write some real words about Wedding Crashers, but here is a comment/reply I received/wrote instead. I think it sums up my thoughts quite nicely (minus the Star Wars stuff): star wars geek wouldn't know funny if it slapped him in the face and cut his head of like a light saber !!! wedding crashers rocks!!Posted 07/15/05 09:23:42 PM by ronarchy a) i don't really like star wars as much as your witty puns indicate.b) wedding crashers is the only film you have ever liked wilson in? that proves you don't like REAL comedy. just fake hollywood-produced commercial crap.c) oh yeah, and YES, wedding crashers does suck. but i guess you have only seen wedding crashers and pumpkin (according to your journal). neither are 10/10.Posted 07/16/05 07:35:00 AM by Lionballo
The supporting cast including the lovely Rachel McAdams & the classic Christopher Walken are a perfect match here for Owen & Vince. Also, there is a hilarious cameo toward the end that just totally got the audience going even more. So if you have some free time this weekend, then I truly recommend that you check out Wedding Crashers. The positive word-of-mouth on this comedy is definately gonna come out. So forget about the negative remarks that the critics made & just sit back & prepare yourself for a laughfest. PEACE OUT!!!!
